Live the Cityred lifestyle

Cityred Living is about more than just where you hang your backpack. It's about getting the most out of living in the plugged in, turned on, going for it, maxed-out, 24/7 city that is Leeds. Here are some, errr, 'helpful' tips and insights from a few of our tenants who've taken Cityred Living to new heights (or depths, depending on your view).....

Fergus, Eleanor & Tim share a house in Hyde Park..

"I've been in Hyde Park for two years and really like it. It's a great student community with a thriving house party culture. Hyde Park itself is a major asset to the area - I love walking through the park on the way into Leeds. As for food and drink locally, I like the Brudenell Social Club, the Royal Park pub and the 'Moorish' shisa café. It's funny, even after all this time in Leeds, I feel like I'm just starting to get to know the place - I'd actually like to stay on for another year, but will probably head back home to London at the end of my course next year." - Fergus Dingle

"I'm in my final year, doing politics and philosophy. I chose Leeds for a couple of reasons -- number one, it has an amazing philosophy department, one of the best in the country. And I also wanted to be far enough away from home in London, and I knew Leeds was a really cool city. It has an amazing vibe - a variety of fantastic nightlife with every kind of music. And you can walk everywhere, it's really compact. Great for shopping, and there are lots of little quirky places to stop in for a quiet drink. I like the location of the university, too - all the teaching is on campus, and the surrounding areas like Hyde Park, where I live, have a great atmosphere. The park itself is lovely, and the cafes and shops around Hyde Park corner are really convenient. I like the Hyde Park Picture House, too, and I'm a regular theatre-goer - the West Yorkshire Playhouse is really cheap for students. So, yes, Leeds is great, and when I do go back down to London, even the train service is good!" - Eleanor Gardiner

"Coming from London I thought Leeds would be fairly limited as a smaller town, but there's plenty to do. There are lots of cinemas, like the large multi-screen complex in The Light on the Headrow and, of course, our local Hyde Park Picture House, which shows much more in the line of art house films. Near us in Hyde Park, we've got lots of places to get food, notably the international supermarket just round the corner - and there are more takeways than you can shake a stick at, if you're that way inclined. A short bus ride away is the town centre, where there's lots of shops and clubs, pubs, bars... I've found the best clubs are the Hi-Fi, the Wardrobe, the Faversham (which is on campus), and there are plenty of other pubs. Generally, everything is within walking distance, if you're feeling energetic; and everything is pretty cheap (compared to London) if you're feeling poor. There's also plenty of cheap (and healthy) restaurants, especially in Hyde Park and Headingley." - Timothy Cole

Luke & Jana live in the City Centre...

"My girlfriend and I were living in a place we weren't very happy with and we just happened to see that Cityred were renovating a lovely Edwardian house nearby, which looked like an ideal spot. So we contacted them and when the renovation was finished, we moved in. Blenheim Square is just so handy for the city centre, everything's just minutes away - and you don't need a taxi home on a night out. We socialise quite a bit with other people in the building, too - there are five flats in all, and everyone's really friendly, popping around for drinks or a barbecue in the summer. Other than that, we actually spend a fair bit of time around Hyde Park corner - the 'L'Oranaise' Moroccan shisha café is a favourite, as is Hyde Park Cinema. We've been in the flat for a year and a half and yeah, it's great, we really like it." - Luke Harris
